Scoring

How scoring works.

Six scores, each answering one question. Objective facts and subjective opinions are always kept separate.

Two kinds of information, kept apart.

Facts and opinions should not be blended into one number. THE READ keeps them in separate lanes so staff can see exactly why an athlete ranks where they do.

Universal

Objective (facts)

  • Verified measurables with source and date
  • Verified stats and event results
  • Sport benchmarks and percentiles
  • Locked once verified; changes leave an audit trail
  • Same for every program
Private

Subjective (opinion)

  • Staff evaluations and scouting notes
  • Character, coachability, leadership ratings
  • Coach Fit and Team Need answers
  • Visible only to your program
  • Never changes the objective grade

The six scores.

Universal

Recruit Score

A locked, objective athlete value built only from verified metrics and approved formulas. Two programs looking at the same athlete see the same Recruit Score.

Built from

Verified measurables, verified stats, benchmarks for the sport and position, age/class context.

Private

Staff Score

Your staff’s own opinion after live or video evaluation. It lives in your workspace and is never mixed into the Recruit Score.

Built from

Evaluation forms, scouting templates, trait ratings, multi-evaluator averages.

Program

Coach Fit

How well the athlete matches what your coach and program want in style, traits, and culture.

Built from

Your Coach Fit questionnaire, trait ratings, role preferences, athlete interests.

Roster

Team Need

How well the athlete addresses current and future roster gaps by position and class.

Built from

Roster plan, graduation timeline, scholarship budget, positional depth.

Program

Priority Score

Answers: how aggressively should we recruit this athlete? Combines the scores above using weights your program chooses.

Built from

Recruit Score + Staff Score + Coach Fit + Team Need, adjusted by Confidence.

Data quality

Confidence

  • What it is: how much verified data supports the objective evaluation. Confidence is not talent.
  • Levels: High 90.0%–100.0%, Medium 60.0%–89.9%, Low below 60.0%, Unknown when it cannot be calculated.
  • Rounding: the level comes from the full stored percentage before rounding.
  • Missing data lowers Confidence; it is never treated as poor performance.
  • High score + Low Confidence is a prompt to verify, not to commit.

Player Tier

  • What it is: a talent label from Recruit Score only.
  • Ranges: Platinum 95.0–100.0, Gold 85.0–94.9, Silver 70.0–84.9, Bronze below 70.0.
  • Not Rated when no Recruit Score exists (never Bronze). Tier uses the full stored score before rounding.
  • Never changes Tier: Staff Score, Coach Fit, Team Need, Adjusted Recruit Score, Priority Score, GPA, Confidence, payment status.

Built from

Share of metrics verified, recency of verification, number of independent sources.

How Priority Score comes together.

Recruit Score+Staff Score+Coach Fit+Team Need→Weighted by your program×Confidence=Priority Score

The weights are set by each program and shown next to the result. The exact formulas are still being finalized; the example numbers in the product preview are fictional.
